Albert Dock Hotels
Originally opened in 1846, Albert Dock was a technological marvel: the first place in the world where ships could be loaded and unloaded directly from warehouses. It became a base for the British Atlantic Fleet during World War II and was consequently bombed several times by the Luftwaffe. After the war, it fell into disrepair, but began to be regenerated in the late-1980s. Today – with its shops, apartments, restaurants, pubs, hotels, galleries and museums, many of them housed in Grade 1-listed buildings – it’s a major tourist site and the most visited multi-use attraction in the United Kingdom, outside of London.
Amongst the many attractions at the Albert Dock are the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Beatles Story and the Tate Liverpool (the National Collection of modern art in the North of England).
